Fresno County Search and Rescue crews searching for Clovis man near Florence Lake

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Crews are looking for an experienced hiker from Clovis who went missing in eastern Fresno County.

Family members say 33-year-old gregory hein went on a back-packing trip a week ago. They say he planned to start at Florence Lake and hike to Mount Goddard -- which is a more than 13-thousand foot peak in Kings Canyon National Park.

His family says Hein was supposed to come back on Monday. Authorities say his car was found parked at Florence Lake, but hein hasn't been found.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office released the following statement to Action News late Thursday morning:

The search continues this morning for missing hiker, Gregory Hein, in eastern Fresno County.

At first light this morning, Eagle One responded back to the search area to assist ground searchers.

Approximately thirty personnel from the Sheriff's Office are now involved in the search, including mountaineers, and members from the horse posse, jeep unit, and air squadron.

The Sheriff's Office is also being assisted by the National Park Service and California Highway Patrol.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Hein, or anyone who may have seen him in the Florence Lake area is asked to immediately contact the Sheriff's Office at 600-3111.
