FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Stunning news out of Kingsburg High School Tuesday, where head football coach Dave Steele was fired after racking up 73 wins and three Valley titles the last seven years.

Action News talked with Coach Steele at length, and he said the main issue was that the Kingsburg School Board wanted to add coaches and replace another to Steele's staff at Kingsburg. Steele already had his staff in place for the coming season, and refused the board's request, only to be fired at a meeting Monday night.

A 1989 graduate of Kingsburg, Steele leaves with a 73-16 record in seven seasons as head coach, including an outstanding 15-3 record in the playoffs.

The Vikings won Valley titles in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and have played the last few seasons in Division II, facing schools twice its size in the postseason.
