Shaela Warkentin is a student at Fresno State and she's making strides despite losing her sight. Warkentin was 16 when the car she was in was struck from behind. The injuries from the accident left her blind.

Warkentin and fitness trainer Rhonda Murphy sat down with Valley Focus Host Margot Kim to talk about Valley Center For The Blind and its inaugural Striding Beyond Sight 5k. Warkentin graduated from Bullard High School and learned Braille. She will walk her first ever 5k with assistance from race host Rhonda Murphy. Murphy says it's a great opportunity to raise awareness about the center and take a healthy walk at Woodward Park.

She encourages the public to register for the 5k, 2-mile run or Kids run. Warkentin's father, Ken is now the Executive Director of Valley Center for the Blind. The center provides support and education for persons with vision loss. They teach people with little or no vision about technology to help make them more independent.
