Man Arrested for New Year's Murder

Thursday morning the Merced Police Department arrested a man they say killed another New Year's Day.Police arrested Christopher Maranco in Stockton at a Greyhound Bus Station where they say he was preparing to head to Texas.

Wednesday, officers arrested Gilbert Ruiz also in connection with the murder.

They say he drove a getaway car in the killing 27 year old Rudolfo Hernandez.

Police found Hernandez shot in the chest at a home on Almond Avenue.

He was rushed to the hospital, but later died.

Hernandez' family told investigators he had recently dropped out of a gang and was trying to turn his life around.

It's still unclear whether the murder was gang-related.
