Man Sentenced to 79 Years in Prison

KFSN Preciado stole a pickup truck with an attached trailer that was carrying a bulldozer in July of 2006.

The 28 year old ran a stop sign and crashed into a car carrying five members of a Lindsay family in Madera County.

Several of the victims' family members were in court Tuesday when the judge handed down his sentence.

"It was pretty hard but now we see the sentence he gave him. It makes us feel better because we know he's not gonna hurt anybody else no more," said Salvador Berber, victims' family member.

"They still have a lot of healing to do and it was such a shock to them to happen all at once to them, to their family. But they're just very strong and courageous people," said Karen Mitchell, Madera County Deputy District Attorney.

Several of the family members from Modesto wrote letters to the judge expressing their grief and asking him to send Preciado to prison for life.
