According to authorities, officers were questioning a man suspected of breaking into cars, when the suspect opened fire on police.
"There was an armed confrontation with the suspect. Suspect fired rounds at officers. They in turn shot at the suspect," said Larry Lincoln on the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
No word though on the condition of the officer.
The suspect was also injured.
He is in critical condition.
