It's official: no fee for hybrids at meters

LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles City Council approved an ordinance Friday solidifying what had been a pilot program.

The newly approved ordinance will extend the program until Jan. 1, 2011 and will cost the city a projected $116,560 annually.

Drivers with a Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight or Ford Escape Hybrid were participants in the program started by the Department of Transportation.

Cars must have a state-issued Clean Air Vehicle decal to be eligible for exemption.
