The two animals were eventually rescued by firefighters. One was covered in soot and suffered from smoke inhalation, but he's expected to be okay.
Casey Clark of the Fresno Fire Department said the family did the right thing by leaving the animals behind. "Animals get very scared during an event like this and will run in and out of the house. And you know, it's really hard on a family when their animals are at risk, but their lives are more important" Clark said.
The fire also spread to the roof of a home next door. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
