The Return of Mammoth Orange

4/4/2008 Chowchilla, CA The City Of Chowchilla said it plans to buy and restore the Mammoth Orange. The Historic Fairmead Drive in shut down in July after renovations to Highway 99 made it more difficult for drivers to get to the restaurant.

But now Chowchilla city officials say they've reached an agreement with the owners of the Orange to buy the local landmark for $5,000.

They plan to re-open the restaurant near where it stood before being moved to Fairmead in 1954.

The city hopes to re-open the Mammoth Orange as part of a new retail center near Robertson Boulevard and Front Street.
