4/26/2008 CHICAGO SWAT teams are on standby and increased patrols are manning the
streets. But Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says the extra police
presence won't solve the problem long term. He held a summit Friday
with more than two dozen officials from police, schools, social
service agencies and religious groups to discuss ways to combat the
violence.
Daley says "a combination of prevention and intervention" and
enforcement is needed to tackle the issue.
One anti-violence activist says he expects the beefed-up police
presence to quell some of the violence. However, there is some
concern about gang-related retaliatory shootings this weekend.
