Clovis Bids for Major Bicycle Race

5/26/2008 Clovis, CA Cycling enthusiast and Clovis Police Captain Bob Keyes is spear-heading the city's recent proposal to bring a leg of the Amgen Tour of California to the Valley next February. "It really is huge...excitement level is pretty high," said Keyes.

Arguably the biggest cycling event in the U.S., the Tour of California covers 650-miles spread out over 8-days, beginning in the Bay Area before finishing in Southern California.

If selected, Clovis would most likely be pegged as a midweek start stage of the race.

Ironically one of the other cities also hoping to secure a bid for next year's tour is Visalia.

If selected, the tour has the potential to bring a huge economic benefit into the local economy and it will be internationally televised.

City officials are hoping to hear back from the tour by late June or early July.
