A man connected to the murder of 16-year-old Courtney Rice is going to prison. A judge sentenced Albert Vargas to more than 16 years in prison.

Vargas accepted a plea deal after a jury acquitted him of first degree murder but couldn't decide on lesser charges.

Investigators found Rice's body in 2006. The prosecutor said she was tied up and beaten.

Vargas was initially tried with three other defendants. Vargas apologized for not stopping the crime.
