Highway 99 reopened after multi-car crash

5/20/2008 Traffic was at a standstill on Highway 99 due to low visibility and several injury-accidents. Crews closed Highway 99 at Taft Highway because blowing dirt and dust was making it too dangerous to drive.

California Highway Patrol officers asked drivers to avoid Highway 99 near Houghton Road, south of Bakersfield.

The first crash happened around 4 p.m. in the southbound lanes, involving eight vehicles and several serious injuries. The next accident happened minutes later in northbound lanes. Four people suffered minor to major injuries.
