However 12 days into basic training Bulmer was stabbed several times in his sleep and died.

After several hours on the road, traveling from an airport in San Francisco to Boice Funeral home in Clovis, the body of murdered 23-year old private Rick Bulmer was delivered to his family.

"It was very honoring how everybody turned out and the police officers were all?Everybody was?Wonderful order?" said sorrowful Aunt Bobbie Ruments.

Ruments gathered with Bulmer's brothers and sisters, also his new wife Beth. She was three months pregnant before Bulmer left for basic training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia.

"He's ready to make a life for them in the military and it just gets cut short and it seems so senseless," said Ruments.

Family said it was a long hard road for this private entering the military. After initially being rejected from the army for medical purposes, a high school accident left him with a rod in his right leg, Bulmer decided to have surgery to remove it.

That was six months ago.

Father-in-law Jeff Langdon said Bulmer conditioned himself with a strong work out regiment and got in. "Not too many people would do what he did to go into service," he said.

Langdon also said the army has arrested a 19-year old private from Floyd, Virginia, but hasn't said what motives the private could possibly have to kill his son-in-law.

"Very sad, you don't expect something like this to happen and if you thought it happen it wouldn't be on your own soil," said Langdon.

There's a viewing for family members Sunday at the funeral home. Monday there will be a public viewing from 10 to 5 and the funeral is set for Tuesday at the Clovis cemetery at 2pm.
