5/24/2008 Santa Cruz County, CA --
A news crew caught up with firefighters from the south valley as they cut out a difficult path to the front line of the Santa Cruz County fire. These crews from Tulare chopped, tugged and yanked through thick brush for hours. Their goal was to clear a narrow path that would allow them to run a hose that's 6-hundred yards long. Thick brush and trees blocked their way and they used hammers and chainsaws to clear it.
The Tulare County crews also kept an eye on 60 acres of flames and put out any hotspots.
Full containment of the fire isn't expected until at least Memorial Day.
The cause is still under investigation.
