FEMA Funding to Help Fight Ca. Wildfire

6/22/2008 OAKLAND, Calif. The fire is one of over three hundred fires that started in the State in the last 24 hours, mostly due to dry lightning.

FEMA approved the Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) June 22, 10:46 a.m. EDT, three hours after the request by the State. This is the second FMAG approved by FEMA over the weekend.

Yesterday, FEMA approved an FMAG for the Trabing fire in Santa Cruz County. "This is proving to be a very active fire season," said FEMA Region IX Administrator Nancy Ward. "Approval of this grant will make sure that California has the resources needed to fight this fire and FEMA will be with the state every step of the way."

The authorization makes FEMA funding available to reimburse 75 percent of the eligible firefighting costs under an approved grant for managing, mitigating and controlling the Wildfire.
