Two people are dead after a high speed crash involving several cars in Baldwin Village. It happened on south La Brea Avenue and Westhaven Street. The accident was reported shortly before midnight.

Nine people were injured in the crash, three of them critically.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to pull some of the injured out of the mangled mess.

Some local residents came out when they heard the loud crash, and rushed to help the victims.

We turned off all the cars you know, like we were turning off all the engines, we took out the keys, We left them there -- you did what you could -- yeah."

Police are investigating whether there was a street race going on at the scene.

They're treating this as a possible crime scene.
