Arson Suspected in Playground Fire

7/14/2008 Chowchilla, CA The Madera County Sheriff's Department is investigating an overnight fire at an elementary school near Chowchilla.

It's a sad scene at Fairmead Elementary School. There's crime tape and around part of the playground, and also puddles from the hoses and sprinklers that were used to put out the fire.

A Madera County Deputy was called to the school around 1:00am Monday morning. When he arrived, he found the playground up in flames.

That the fire is now out, and the charred jungle gym and other damage all that was left behind. Investigators said the lights mounted outside two classrooms were also destroyed.

So far there are no suspects in this case.

This is the latest in a rash of vandalism cases at Valley schools. Fresno Police are still investigating at least eight different cases, including other fires.
