Thunderstorm Starts Three more Fires

Monday's storms started three small fires in the Sierra National Forest, but firefighters don't expect them to pose any threats.In Big Sur, most restaurants and hotels are open for business again after state authorities reopened the last stretch of Highway 1 through the region.

Cooler weather north of Sacramento is helping firefighters move closer to surrounding a fire burning near the town of Paradise.

State fire officials said 288 fires are still burning in the state, down from 1,700 since June 21st.
