$89.95 is what Midas advertises for new brakes. But they're accused of using that bargain price to lure customers into a trap. Micheal Bolten is with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. Bolten said, "The car only needed brake pads installed that was the only thing that the vehicle needed to have done to it." Under cover investigators took 24 cars into Midas shops. They wanted the brake special but mechanics charged them $300 for other repairs. Bolten said, "We got sold radiator flushes. We got sold shocks and struts and all of those parts were branded new and in no need of servicing at all in them."

Bolten said dishonest practices occurred at all the Midas shops in the Fresno-Clovis area. They discovered issues in Merced at the store located on "V" street. Employees wouldn't comment and referred us to the company owner Mike Glad. He told us he runs an honest business, but Glad declined to go into detail. Glad said, "I can't make a judgment on what their assertions are. I do know that if they would have used a dialogue with me that any problems they may have found would be corrected immediately." Glad hopes customers continue to trust a brand that has been around for decades.

A Fresno County judge is expected to take up this issue in a few weeks. The owner Mike Glad faces thousands of dollars worth of fines. But he says he will fight to remain open.
