Laton Firefighters Investigation Continues

July 23, 2008 11:58:50 PM PDT
One of the Laton volunteer fire firefighters arrested in connection with dozens of arson fires walked out of the Fresno County jail Wednesday night, after prosecutors decided not to press charges, citing a lack of evidence.Tuesday, fire investigators in Kings and Fresno counties announced two volunteer firefighters, Teddy Lee and Christopher Furtado, were connected to 30 arson fires. Investigators said the two were arrested Monday night, after they were questioned about a fire at the Kings County Club. The club burned to the ground on July 7th and investigators believe it was intentionally set, though they declined to confirm or deny whether Furtado and Lee were connected to the fire.

Fire investigators haven't revealed what evidence led to their arrests Monday, but said they followed a weeks-long investigation into dozens of structural and wild land fires in both Fresno and Kings Counties. Furtado posted bond Tuesday and Lee was released Wednesday evening.

Though both of the men are out of jail, the investigation continues.
