Porterville PD Shot & Killed Knife-Wielding Man

Police shot and killed a man at the Foster Farms chicken processing plant in Porterville. The shooting occurred shortly before noon on Thursday.According to a press release issued by Foster Farms, the suspect was fleeing police from another location. The company press release says the man was shot as he was attempting to force his way into an employee break room.

Police have provided few details, but the company claims the man was armed with a knife. A worker at the plant told Action News several employees witnessed the shooting. Foster Farms security would not allow reporters on the premises.

Workers leaving the plant told Action News the man was a former employee of the facility.

Police have not said why they were pursuing the man, and as of late Thursday night had not released his name. Police say the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated by the Tulare County District Attorney's office.
