7/27/2008 Mariposa, CA Back in 1988, firefighters said the growing number of new homes in the area was cause for concern and they lost at least one home to this fire.

But since then, fire seasons have been relatively calm, leaving bushes and shrubs to grow thicker. That left a lot of burnable material for this year's fire.
