Recess Cancelled Due to Bad Air

Extreme heat has returned to the Valley and one Valley school district is changing up the routine to keep students safe from the unhealthy air quality.Bad air quality has administrators here in Central Unified changing the routine of students recess has been cancelled and outdoor athletic practice has been moved inside because of the dirty air.

Administrators made the call just after 8:00am Friday morning after air quality reports showed another day of very unhealthy air. A layer of brown haze is lingering over the Valley and air quality experts are recommending any activity that requires deep breathing be suspended.

District officials said they want to limit student's exposure to the deteriorating air as much as possible.

Instead of going outside during breaks and recess students will be kept indoors playing games and doing other activities that provide a break from class work.

Thursday a Red Alert was issued that forced only those with respiratory issues to stay inside, but today the alert is being extended to every student no matter their health status.
