8-Foot-Tall Marijuana Plants Found In Snelling

Merced County, CA, USA This is one truckload full of the eight foot tall plants deputies cut down this Friday morning.

These plants were found in Snelling near the Merced River. Residents were concerned that children who swim in the river might run into traps or armed growers in the area.

Deputies say they found a total of about three thousand plants worth at least six million dollars at spots near the river and along Highway 59. They initially spotted the plants from the sky …

Deputy Tom Mackenzie, Merced Co. Sheriff's Dept.: "It started out as assist to Fish and Game. They had a report of someone poaching in the area, so we used our air service to assist in searching for the poachers and that's when they found the marijuana grow."

Thirteen deputies spent nearly seven hours uprooting and destroying all of the plants.
