Officials said determining a cause of death will be a challenge because there is very little evidence and the remains may have been in storage for years. An anthropologist is working to identify the body parts.
Investigators said a Bakersfield family first spotted a decomposed human hand in their belongings they removed from a storage unit. They told police, several people share the storage space.
