Fresno State 24, Rutgers 7

Plenty of red wavers had to be on the edge of their seats ... as the bulldogs waited until the second half to do all their scoring.

The offense sputtered in the first half but Fresno State's defense remained stout stuffing the scarlet knights on 4th and goal in the first quarter. In the second half Fresno State opened up its offense.

Tom Brandstater going deep for Seyi Ajirotutu ... good for 77-yards to help set up a Ryan Mathews touchdown run.

Bulldogs led 10-7 in the 4th quarter when Ajirotutu hauled in a critical first down on third and long.

Mathews second of three touchdowns on the day helped Fresno State open the season with a big 24-7 upset win on the road in New Jersey.

The bulldogs will return to campus tonight as they'll have almost two weeks to prepare for Wisconsin at Bulldog Stadium September 13.
