It was a rough first season as coach at Clovis High last year for Jerry Campbell it had been many a year since the storied Cougar program failed to win a game. The Cougars hosted Atascadero High and the enthusiasm at Lamonica Stadium didn't die down even after the Cougars fell behind ten nothing 2nd quarter watch Clovis High's Josh Garrett on the option, keeps it, darts through a seam and takes it 37 yards for a touchdown.

The Cougars defense makes a statement on the very next Atascadero possession. They swarm the Atascadero quarterback; force him to lose the football. Clovis High recovers the following drive looks like it's going to stall. 4th and 11, a gutsy call to go for it Garrett with the beautifully thrown fade that's hauled in for the touchdown.

In Porterville, Hanford West over Granite Hills 21 to 6. Firebaugh's a winner 36 to nothing over Orosi. A lot of young players stepped into big roles tonight at Sunnyside Stadium when Hoover High and Mt. Whitney high kicked off the season. A picture perfect night as far as Jason Seaborn was concerned as he hauls in this pass from Hoover's junior quarterback Eric Kendrick and doesn't stop until he's knocked out of bounds just inside the 5 yard line. The play covered 24 yards. Kendrick caps the drive, keeping it and going over for the touchdown. A keeper for the 2 point conversion erased Mt. Whitney's 8 point lead and tied the game up. It was a tight battle into the late stages with Mt Whitney scoring late for a 27 to 23 win

Selma High's rushing attack gave Roosevelt fits tonight against Roosevelt. Erik Herrera picks up the tough yards on the carry here in the second half with the bears already up 20-0. Later in the drive, it was quarterback Sebastian Saldate with the nicely timed pitch to Roberto Ramirez to end the third quarter. Adrian Pacheco would get Selma in the end zone to start the 4th quarter. The senior racked up 250-yards and four touchdowns to help Selma knockoff Roosevelt 26-0.

And in one of the oddities of the night, Avenal was surprised when Hancock Christian showed up from Stockton and told them their CIF section did not permit games until next week; so the scoreboard wasn't used, stat's weren't kept. No score… just a scrimmage.
