A state news agency says the death toll in a landslide that engulfed a village in northern China has risen to 254. Xinhua News Agency says 128 of the bodies recovered have been identified since the disaster Monday in Shanxi province's Xiangfen county. Xinhua says 1047 people have been displaced by the landslide.

The report filed late Saturday says the head of the county and the county's Communist Party committee chief have been suspended from duty.

Rescue workers are combing through 74 acres of sludge and mining waste, fearing hundreds more people are buried beneath.
