Merced County Budget

September 16, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Merced County supervisors will vote on a final budget Tuesday and public safety is a top priority. The county previewed the proposal on Monday. The nearly $470 million dollar budget is about seven percent less than the current one. But it increases spending for local public safety by nearly ten percent to 47 million dollars.

Officials said the board of supervisors began a conservative spending plan several years ago which helped prepare the county to deal with the current housing crisis and state deficit.

Officials said the county budget is balanced, but they may need to make more spending cuts depending on the final state budget.
