Fresno Mayor Takes to Air Waves

Fresno, CA "You're listening to 'The Alan Autry Show' on 1300 KYNO" rang from the speakers in Autry's studio. He started his talk show by taking on the economic meltdown. Autry said during his show, "… Because we're talking about the end of the day, the middle class being able to withstand this."

Monday through Friday, two hours each day, listeners can call the KYNO studios to ask Autry questions. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of the first callers and said, "With your personality, your knowledge and passion ... You're going to have the highest rating in no time." Autry then said, "Well I appreciate that governor."

Autry with a microphone means he bypasses traditional media outlets to spread his message over the airwaves.

ABC 30's Political Analyst Tony Capozzi believes Mayor Autry is wasting taxpayer time while hosting this show. Capozzi said, "I think it would be best for the mayor and the city if the mayor were at city hall… I don't see how any mayor who is doing his job would have the time to do a two hour talk show."

Autry said he has time to juggle both roles and has no plans to run for office. But he could soon interject himself into city politics by hosting an on-air debate between the two people who now want his job. Autry said, "I've got some questions I would like both of them to answer. I think I know some issues facing the city that might not be well known that are, very, very important." A mayor hosting a debate between two mayoral candidates would be another first for Fresno listeners.
