What Voters Can Expect at the Polls

Fresno, CA, USA Fresno County's clerk has already processed 100,000 early voting ballots. That is a third of all registered voters. Clearly there are a lot of candidates and issues motivating people to exercise their right to vote.

The night before the election was a flurry of activity for the candidates and their volunteers. Like Fresno's Mayoral Candidate Henry T. Perea who spoke to supporters at Fresno State. "Let's make sure tomorrow that Washington DC isn't the only city that sees change tomorrow, that Fresno, California also sees change. Thank you for your support. I look forward to working with you for the next four years."

Across town, Ashley Swearengin spent Monday evening personally reminding voters to get out and asking for their support. "Very anxious, we're real excited. There's a lot of work that's gone into the campaign and it's a little bit surreal to believe it's the night before Election Day, I can hardly believe it."

The final push both for and against Proposition 8 happened on the very same street corner in Fresno.

While Republican and Democrat headquarters buzzed with last-minute phone calls for John McCain and Barack Obama

Election workers were already processing mail in ballots. With the help of a high tech sorting machine. Eventually, all the ballots will be taken downtown for tabulation.

Fresno County Clerk Victor Salazar said because of the huge turnout, it could take as many as 28-days to announce the final results. "There will be thousands of vote by mail ballots that will be delivered to the polling places throughout the county. Those have to be verified and processed, so that will take some time."

Polls open Tuesday at 7:00am and close at 8:00pm. As long as you're in line by 8:00pm, you'll be allowed to vote.
