Dow Drops Below 10,000

October 6, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
The Dow Jones industrials have fallen below the 10,000 level for the first time Monday morning. Levels have not plunged below 10,000 since October 29, 2004.Wall Street is following the lead of markets around the world, with stocks falling sharply in the first few minutes.

The Dow lost more than 200 points after the opening bell, as investors continue to worry that the credit crisis is spreading.

They're finding that the rescue plan approved by Congress last week won't work quickly to unfreeze credit markets.
