Wild Fresno Crime Spree

Fresno, CA, USA The sound of helicopters and search dogs has died down in this neighborhood. After an intense search, police said they have their man.

Fresno Police say around midnight a grey Ford Focus was stolen at gunpoint in northwest Fresno. Just 30 minutes later, at a gas station on Shields and Cedar, another call of an attempted carjacking at gunpoint; but this time, unsuccessful.

Officers spotted the original stolen car, the grey Ford Focus, around Cedar and Olive and tried to pull it over. The driver refused to stop, instead running a red light. So officers gave chase.

The suspect lost control, and crashed into a fence in front of this home on grant. That's when he took off on foot.

For hours officers combed the neighborhood from the ground and from the air but came up empty until one family told police they had heard a lot of noise coming from their backyard. Officers climbed the roof and found the suspect hiding on top, under the eaves.

"This subject is a very violent person, twice he has utilized his weapon, putting a gun to innocent victims, this was not somebody we were gonna let go," said Mike Doyle with the Fresno Police Department.

The suspect surrendered peacefully and was arrested.

Police said they recovered a large caliber revolver which they believe is the weapon used in the carjacking and attempted carjacking.
