Downtown Fresno House Fire

October 22, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Fresno Firefighters rushed to a house fire in downtown Fresno which left five people without a home."Hearing everybody tumbling down the upstairs stairwell yelling 'fire.' I was sound asleep they woke me up," said fire victim William Hamm.

The other people in the home helped William Hamm and his pet bird to safety. One person had to be taken to a hospital. It's not known how badly they were hurt.

When firefighters arrived around 2 o'clock Wednesday morning, there was heavy fire coming from the windows on the upper story. The power line to the house had come loose, and was sparking, creating a danger for firefighters.

It took about 45 minutes for crews to bring the fire under control. Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
