November 6, 2008 12:27:33 AM PST
In San Francisco thousands of supporters of same sex marriage gathered around City Hall. Holding a candlelight vigil to protest passage of Prop 8. The measure passed by voters in Tuesdays election aimed at making same sex marriage unconstitutional in California.Similar events took place around the state. Thousands of marchers took to the streets in West Hollywood. Marching for hours Wednesday night.

In Fresno, Prop 8 supporter Steve Williams of the Valley Christian Center says the challenges are expected. He says, "The reality is, even though Prop 8 has passed, even in California, we still expect there will be attempts to silence people of faith and their beliefs."

In fact, several legal challenges to the constitutionality of Prop 8 have been filed by civil rights groups, and the cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles along with Santa Clara County.

Passage of the measure has created some confusion. Some counties, like Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare have stopped same sex weddings. While they continue in Merced County.

In Sacramento, the decision to stop came in the middle of one ceremony after the county attorney called to advise the county clerk to stop.

Supporters and Opponents of Prop 8 have already spent more than 70 million dollars in promoting and fighting the issue. The legal battle and the protests will continue.
