A Fresno teacher was sent home Friday after police determined he was drunk during class. 52 year old Kurt Hudson, a math teacher at Fresno High School, is on administrative leave after students reported inappropriate behavior during class.Word of the teacher's alleged intoxication spread fast among students at Fresno High School. Jordan Byrd is in Kurt Hudson's sixth period "intro to geometry" class, but Friday another teacher filled in after Hudson was sent home. Police said he was drunk at school. "It's crazy, you wouldn't think a teacher would be doing that on campus," said Byrd.

Fresno Police said school administrators called them after students reported Hudson's strange behavior. "He was saying things that were inappropriate and was being very loud," said Fresno Police spokesperson Jeff Cardinale.

Police said officers immediately smelled alcohol on Hudson's breath and they were told he had tried to use a breath mint to conceal it. A vice principal also told officers they found a small amount of coconut rum in the bathroom. "Of course, they did the field sobriety tests and all of them showed not only was he under the influence but he had failed them pretty badly," said Cardinale.

A Fresno Unified School District spokesperson said parents were notified of the incident through phone messages. Some parents learned about it at Fresno High School's football game Friday night. "That's not acceptable, definitely not...it is shocking, it is very shocking for a teacher to be drunk at school," said teacher Rosemary Perez.

Police said Hudson won't be facing any criminal charges, but he now faces disciplinary action through the Fresno Unified School District. Counselors will be on campus in the coming days to talk to students.
