Hundreds gathered at Buchanan high school Friday night for a dedication ceremony for what's now known as Veterans Memorial Stadium. The halftime ceremony included a presentation of flags from each branch of the military to each of the district's high schools. The flags will fly at the stadium.

Buchanan high school is known for its military service and sacrifice. Six former graduates have been killed while fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Most here felt naming the stadium was a fitting tribute to veterans. The school district decided to rename the stadium last year.

Friday night's ceremony was timed to coincide with Veterans Day which is this coming Tuesday.

There are several events scheduled this weekend to honor veterans.

Saturday, the Veterans Day Run will take place in Visalia at Plaza Park, located at Highway 198 and Plaza Drive.

On Monday, the Hubbard-Baro Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Fort Washington Country Club, on North Millbrook Avenue in northeast Fresno.

And on Tuesday, Veterans Day, the City of Fresno will hold its annual Veterans Day Parade at 10:45 am in front of City Hall.
