Math Teacher Expects His Termination

Jeff Powell continues to defend himself. Powell said he only learned about the findings of the investigation through the media, and Powell thinks he will likely be fired. Powell talked with Action News outside his Clovis home. The Edison High School math teacher described his feelings after hearing the superintendent's comments. Powell said, "My reaction, I'm hurt. When you call someone a liar that's not very nice when you know you are not lying when you know you are telling the truth."

Powell says he has taught for more than two decades. Fresno Unified put him on paid administrative when the district started investigating allegations he changed a students grade from an 'F' to an 'A'. Powell said, "Absolutely not. He earned what he earned."

Powell continues to blame school administrators for changing the student's grade from failing to an 'A'. Powell now believes he will likely be fired from his position at Edison High School. Powell said, "Just keep praying for me, this is happening for a reason, and we are going to figure it out."

Powell is threatening a lawsuit if he is indeed fired. Powell also said this morning as far as he is aware he remains on paid administrative leave.
