King says he saw both men and tried to help the teen, but there wasn't anything that could be done. "I told him, 'What's your name, what's your name? My name is Patrick.' His eyes turned purple and they stopped breathing on me. It was like, 'What do I do?'" said King.
When police arrived they began looking for suspects, who witnesses say ran away after the shooting. "Officers did see one the subjects running and jumping a fence so we have him detained at this time," said Lt. Herman Silva with the Fresno Police Department.
While police searched for additional suspects, nearby Olmos elementary was put under a lockdown. For almost an hour, teachers and students there for an after school program stayed inside as concerned neighbors tried to make sense of the violence. "It could have been anybody, for somebody to get shot like that at a young age, its like, man," said King.
Police haven't released a motive for the shooting and it's unknown if it was gang related. Neighbors who didn't want to go on camera said gang activity is prevalent in the area.
