Rain Causes Earlimart Fire

November 26, 2008 12:00:00 AM PST
The rain actually caused a fire in the South Valley. It happened at an almond processing plant south of Earlimart. The main building is destroyed, but firefighters were able to save the other building.

Firefighters said the fire started when a chemical sprayed on a bin of almonds got wet from the rain. A worker had tried to put out the fire with a garden hose. There are no fire hydrants near the plant, so crews brought in water tenders to fight the flames.

Firefighters expect the fire to continue to burn through the morning.
