Fashion Guru Tim Gunn Visits Fresno

Fresno, CA, USA Tim Gunn of "Project Runway" stopped by Gottschalks in River Park for a holiday fashion show, but it also turned into a lesson in style for Valley women.

Some women just seem to have it. But Tim Gunn said good style is within everyone's reach. Gunn co-hosted a fashion show Saturday, not just showing off the latest fashions, but also helping women maximize the wardrobe they already have. He said a few accessories can go a long way and the key is finding out what it is that you're missing. "What's something that would really help take these items you already have and make them seem fresh and new?" said Gunn.

Gunn is the Chief Creative Officer for Liz Claiborne. After "Project Runway"'s success, he got his own show, called "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style." Many who showed up to see him Saturday were big fans. "We love the show. We watch it every week," said mother and daughter pair Amie and Susan Hernandez.

Anthony Ash was one of the few men in attendance. "He knows his fashion, what's in, what's hot and what's going on outside of Fresno," said Ash.

Gunn said fashion rules are meant to be broken. That means it is okay to wear white after Labor day, as long as you are comfortable. "I don't want anyone to stand out for the wrong reasons. And to say, 'well, Tim Gunn said I could!" Well, I want to feel comfortable and confident in how they're navigating the world and if a white shoe is going to do them in, then don't," said Gunn.

Gunn knows fashion and he's eager to help others. He stopped by Action News Saturday morning to promote the Gottschalks fashion show, the fifth and final stop of a "Guess who's coming to town?" tour. Many who came Saturday said they believe they can use what they've learned to build a better wardrobe. "To have a lot of clothes, you have room for them. So be able to take one outfit and make it into different outfits is something fun to do," said Debbie Graeber of Clovis.
