Apartment Fire in West Central Fresno

Fresno fire officials are investigating an apartment fire in West Central Fresno. They said was started on purpose.The fire broke out around 6am in the area of Brooks & McKinley. Officials believe a man who lived in the home, who is mentally disabled, started the fire himself.

He was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Investigators said this isn't the first time the 33-year-old has started a fire at the apartment. "Earlier the mother reported started fire in his bedroom that she extinguished this is something we will continue to work with his family to make sure this doesn't happen again," said Ken Shockley with the Fresno Fire Department.

Officials estimate about $85,000 dollars in damages to the apartment. Nearby apartment units only had minor smoke and water damage.
