Passengers Stranded in Fresno

For valley travelers heading to the northwest, it's going to take more than a letter to Santa to get passengers like Bree Al-Rashied home. A weekend snow storm canceled flights in major cities like Seattle and Portland leaving hundreds of people stranded across the country. Al- Rashied, a mom-to-be, is in Fresno and looking at two extra days of travel. "I'm going to drive to Sacramento on the morning of Christmas Eve and take a 7 o clock flight out of Sacramento so I can get home to my husband" she said.

Even with a Christmas tree and holiday decorations, Vickie Calderon with Fresno Yosemite International Airport said it's tough being stuck at an airport during the holidays. "They are trying to get to their destination with family and friends so it can be a little frustrating for passengers."

In fact Horizon Airlines canceled three flights earlier Monday and six Sunday, because of bad weather. Horizon employees said every flight from now until Christmas day is booked solid. However, they are getting some passengers moving by rebooking with other airlines.

Gwendolynne Reimer rebooked with Delta and said, "I'm keeping my fingers crossed I do have a ticket."

But that ticket won't get Reimer out of Fresno and into Idaho for two days. Reimer added, "They had a flight on Christmas morning at 6:30." For now she's curling up with a book and spending time with family here in Fresno, "I'll be there when I can get there."

Alaska and Horizon Airlines are giving full refunds for canceled flights and re-booking for free. Fresno Airport officials said check your flight status before you leave the house.
