Mark is a member of an elite group of runners, the United States running streak association.
They are committed to running every day to build up an unbroken running streak. Mark is the reigning champion. He started July 23rd, 1968. Debbie Covert, his wife of 30 years, concedes there is an element of obsession here.
This is the time of year when people think about New Year's resolutions, losing weight and doing more exercise. Now, you may not want to get out every day, but Mark Covert said the secret is keeping at it.
Mark sees the new runners coming out on the street this time of year, but by February or March, he said, most have given up.
Mark ran cross country at high school, barefoot. Now, his running habit costs him 20 pairs of shoes a year. He has no plans to stop.
