January 7, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
A bomb squad surrounded a neighborhood in Visalia after a man thought he spotted a pipe bomb in his front yard.It happened at around 10:15 Wednesday morning at the corner of Evergreen Court and Aspen Street.

Visalia Police surrounded the neighborhood and evacuated around 50 people. Bomb Squad detectives sent in a small robot to investigate the object. Police later determined it was not a pipe bomb, but it was a frightening situation for neighbors.

"I took my daughter for a bicycle ride around the block and I seen a 13-14 inch pipe laying in my yard and I picked it up, it had two end caps on it and one of the end caps looked like it had a 22 primer at the end so I set it down and called 911 right away," said Martin Greenhalgh.

After the bomb squad robot picked up the pipe, it was taken to a remote, safe location and destroyed. Nearby streets were shut down for about an hour and a half.
