January 12, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
A truck trailer loaded with nearly five thousand gallons of gasoline overturned and exploded in flames just South of Fresno. The mishap occurred in the southbound lane of Highway 41, just North of Elkhorn Ave. Nobody was hurt. Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading by cutting the hitch between the burning, overturned trailer and the truck, which was carrying another tank holding four thousand gallons of gasoline.

The highway was closed in both directors for seven hours. The accident occurred in heavy fog, but the Highway Patrol believes a mechanical problem caused the trailer to overturn.

Environmental cleanup crews spent several hours at the scene, scooping up buckets of gasoline, and scraping contaminated dirt off the shoulder of the highway.
