Inkheart is blasted by the Critics

January 23, 2009 9:18:05 AM PST
Brendan Fraser goes from mummies to mythical creatures in his latest movie. He faces villains both real and fictional in the fantasy adventure film "Inkheart".

Brendan Fraser plays Mo Folchart, a father who possesses a secret ability to bring characters from books to life when he reads them aloud. But when Mo accidentally makes real a power hungry villain from a rare children's fable, the villain kidnaps his daughter and demands other evil fictional characters be brought to life. Mo then assembles a group of real and not so real friends to save his daughter.

Variety said despite abundant talent on both sides of the camera including Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent, this 'effects heavy' story doesn't conjure much in the way of big screen magic.

The Associated Press critic gave Inkheart one and a half stars saying it was embarrassing to watch the big stars lower themselves into such a ridiculous scenario.
