Madera Brings In Outside Firm to Fight Graffiti

January 15, 2009 1:17:45 AM PST
The city of Madera is taking some new steps to help in the ongoing battle against graffiti. The Madera City Council voted unanimously to hire an outside firm of anti-graffiti experts to clean up the tagging.

Three full-time graffiti abatement crews with the city usually hit the streets daily to remove the graffiti -- but it's been a losing battle.

City officials say the firm will help develop a more thorough approach to combating graffiti. That includes not only abatement -- but also prosecution, education, and community involvement.

The cost is about forty -thousand dollars ... But that's much less than what it costs city workers to clean up the graffiti.
