Earned Income Tax Credit

Fresno, CA, USA Fresno city leaders, including Mayor Ashley Swearengin, launched an effort to put more money in the pockets of those who need it most.

The Earned Income Tax Credit is a special federal program that supplements the earnings of low-income working individuals and families.

The campaign involves two free tax programs, one of which is the "i-can e-file" available on the internet. Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin said, "Just by filing a basic tax return, qualified families in Fresno could receive federal refund checks of up to $4800. This is money that people have already earned."

Last year, more than nine-thousand people filed their tax forms through these free programs. More than eleven-million dollars in federal refunds were also pumped into the local economy.
